Understanding the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) 67 Points Calculator

The Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program is one of Canada’s primary pathways for skilled immigrants seeking to gain permanent residency. To be eligible, applicants must meet specific requirements and score a minimum of 67 points out of 100 on the FSW points grid.

1. Education (Maximum 25 points)

Education is an essential factor in the FSW points system. Points are allocated based on the level of education attained:

  • Doctoral (PhD) level: 25 points
  • Master’s level or professional degree: 23 points
  • Two or more post-secondary credentials, with 3 or more years: 22 points

2. Language Proficiency (Maximum 28 points)

Points are awarded based on the results of an approved language test, such as IELTS for English or TEF for French. These are divided into two parts:

  • First Official Language (Maximum 24 points)
    • Speaking: up to 6 points
    • Listening: up to 6 points
    • Reading: up to 6 points
  • Second Official Language (Maximum 4 points)
    • Additional 4 points for basic proficiency in the second language

3. Work Experience (Maximum 15 points)

Points are allocated based on the number of years of full-time work experience at skill type 0, or skill levels A or B of the National Occupational Classification (NOC):

  • 1 year: 9 points
  • 2-3 years: 11 points
  • 4-5 years: 13 points

  1. Gather Information: Collect all your information such as education, language test results, work experience, age, employment in Canada, and adaptability factors.
  2. Calculate Education Points (Max 25):
    • PhD: 25 points
    • Master’s: 23 points
    • Two post-secondary credentials (one 3+ years): 22 points
    • Three-year post-secondary: 21 points
  3. Calculate Work Experience Points (Max 15):
    • 1 year: 9 points
    • 2-3 years: 11 points
    • 4-5 years: 13 points
    • 6+ years: 15 points
  4. Calculate Age Points (Max 12):
    • 18-35 years: 12 points
    • 36-47 years: Points decrease by 1 each year
    • 47+ years: 0 points
  5. Sum Your Points: After adding all points, if the sum is 67 or more, you are eligible.
  6. Create an Express Entry Profile: If eligible, create a profile to enter the Express Entry pool.
